Cloak: Private AI Chat
Cloak is an AI chat app for iPhone and iPad that runs its language model on your device. Conversations are not sent to cloud AI servers, it works with no internet connection after a one-time model download, it requires no account, and it is a one-time purchase rather than a subscription. Cloak is developed by Polyaura.
- What it is: an AI chat application for iPhone and iPad.
- Where the AI runs: locally, on your device.
- Cloud: conversations are not sent to cloud AI servers.
- Offline: works with no internet connection once the model is downloaded.
- Account: none required.
- Price: a one-time purchase, not a subscription.

What Cloak is
Cloak is an AI chat application for iPhone and iPad, published on the App Store as Cloak: Private AI Chat. It is developed by Polyaura, an independent artificial intelligence research lab.
Unlike a cloud assistant, Cloak does not send your message anywhere to get an answer. The language model is stored on your iPhone or iPad and runs there, using the device's own hardware. That single design decision is what produces every other property below: it works offline, it needs no account, and there is no server that could read your conversations.
Where the AI actually runs
AI inference runs locally on the device. When you send a message in Cloak, the model on your iPhone or iPad generates the response. No prompt, no reply, and no conversation history is transmitted to a remote AI service for processing.
Conversations are not sent to cloud AI servers. Chats, settings, and preferences are stored locally using standard iOS storage. Cloak contains no analytics and no third-party SDKs. The app makes exactly one network request in normal use: the one-time model download described below, which is a standard HTTPS request that includes no user data. This is documented in full in the Cloak privacy policy.
Working without an internet connection
Cloak works without an internet connection after its model is installed. The first time you open the app, it downloads its AI model to the device. That download is the only step that needs a network, and it is best done over Wi-Fi before you need the assistant somewhere without signal.
After the download finishes, Cloak answers with no connection at all — on a plane in airplane mode, on a trail with no cellular service, in a basement, or abroad without a data plan. There is no server for the app to lose contact with.
No account, no sign-up
Cloak requires no account. There is no sign-up, no email address, no password, and no login screen. Install the app, download the model once, and start chatting. Because there is no account, there is also no profile, no synced chat history on a server, and nothing to delete from a database later.
One-time purchase, not a subscription
Cloak is a one-time purchase of $0.99 on the US App Store. There is no subscription, no recurring charge, and no in-app purchases. Since no server processes your messages, there is no ongoing infrastructure cost to pass on to you.
Personalization
Cloak supports multiple chat threads you can switch between, and a settings screen where you can set your own system prompt to shape how the AI responds — shorter, more detailed, a particular tone — along with the app's background color. All of it saves locally, with no account involved.

What Cloak does not do
An on-device model is smaller than a large cloud model, and it is honest to be specific about the tradeoffs:
- Cloak cannot browse the web or look up live information such as news, weather, or prices.
- Its model is smaller than frontier cloud models, so it is weaker on long, highly complex reasoning tasks.
- It does not sync conversations across devices, because there is no account and no server.
- It requires a recent OS version (iOS or iPadOS 26.5), so older devices that cannot update are not supported.

Common questions about Cloak
What is Cloak?
Cloak, listed on the App Store as Cloak: Private AI Chat, is an AI chat application for iPhone and iPad. The language model runs locally on the device, so conversations are answered without contacting a cloud AI server. Cloak is developed by Polyaura.
Does Cloak work without internet?
Yes. Cloak downloads its AI model once on first launch, which requires an internet connection. After that download completes, Cloak generates responses with no internet connection at all, including in airplane mode and in areas with no Wi-Fi or cellular service.
Does Cloak send conversations to the cloud?
No. Cloak does not send conversations to cloud AI servers. All AI inference happens on the device, and chats, settings, and preferences are stored locally using standard iOS storage. Cloak has no analytics and no third-party SDKs. The only network request the app makes is the one-time model download from a public URL, which contains no user data.
Does Cloak require an account?
No. Cloak requires no account, no sign-up, no email address, and no login. You install the app, download the model once, and start chatting.
Is Cloak a subscription?
No. Cloak is a one-time purchase of $0.99 on the US App Store. There is no subscription, no recurring fee, and no in-app purchases.
Who develops Cloak?
Cloak is developed by Polyaura, an independent artificial intelligence research lab. Polyaura publishes at polyaura.com and can be reached at alex@polyaura.com.
Which Apple devices support Cloak?
Cloak is a universal iPhone and iPad app. It requires iOS 26.5 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 26.5 or later on iPad. Cloak is not currently available for Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, or Apple Vision Pro.
How is Cloak different from cloud AI chat applications?
Cloud AI chat applications such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini send your message to a remote server, run the model there, and send the reply back — which requires an internet connection and usually an account. Cloak runs its model on your own iPhone or iPad instead, so it works offline, needs no account, and does not transmit conversations to an AI provider. The tradeoff is that an on-device model is smaller than a large cloud model and has no web browsing or live data access.
